Hi,
I'm getting the following error message when Installing SP2 on windows 2003 web edition.
Access is Denied. It goes through most of it about 70% and then comes up with this message.
Can anyone help?
I checked the log and this is what it shows:
DoRegistryUpdates:UpdSpInstallFromInfSection Failed for ProductInstall.GlobalRegistryChanges.Install error: 0x5
Thanks

So i searched and searched and couldn't find anything and then finally I got it to work.
Here is the solution to this problem. There are lots of things regarding windows 2003 service pack 2 installation issues on the web but this one particular there weren't any direct answers. The knowledge base kept on focusing on XP which I didn't want to follow.
So here is what I did to solve the issue.
1. I renamed the file: c:\windows\system32\spupdsvc.exe to something like c\windows\system32\spupdsvc.exe.original
2. I changed the registry: MyComputer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT so that the Administrator has full control on the key.
I didn't have the key for full control set.
Once I set this, then I re ran the setup again and it ran successfully.
Hope this help you out folks.
Thanks,
