The steps you mentioned above are somewhat correct.

First thing first, you would take a full backup of database and software before starting any activity.

Once you have that in place, you can begin your work , however if all goes well, you wouldn't have to restore anything. Only time you would have to restore is if things didn't go well during the upgrade.

Remember, there are pre and post steps in the documentation that you must follow depending on what features are being used in the database.

I currently have version 10.2.0.2 on a Rac enviroment hosted on 2 SLES Linux 10 and have to apply patch 10.2.0.5.
What would be the best advice to do so?

So far I have read the readme file and all I got was a headache.

So far my plan of action is:

Make a backup up jobs
Take offline node 1
apply patch on CRS home
apply patch on ASM home
apply patch on Databases home
Take offline node 2
update databases on node 1
restore backup jobs on node 1
apply patch on CRS, ASM and DATABASES.

Praying while doing all of the steps.......... I know it surely won´t help hehe but hey........ there is nothing to loose.

Any sujestion besides praying?
